Welcome to Psychiatrist of Upper West Side!

Thank you for visiting the website of Dr. Juliane Zenn, Board Certified Adult and Adolescent Psychiatrist with 28 years experience.

Often we experience feelings, thoughts and behaviors that prevent us from living full lives. It’s not unusual to occasionally have anxious moments or experience sadness or fear, but when those feelings dominate your thoughts, it eventually becomes impossible to function. People suffering from psychiatric disorders can lose days, months, even years to symptoms that go untreated.

Through skilled evaluation and guided therapy, individuals suffering from illnesses like depression, anxiety, panic, phobias, eating disorders, or relationship problems can heal. Specialized treatment can help develop the skills necessary to deal with stress and help people make necessary behavioral changes that lead to a more healthy life.

Happiness is not an illusion or an emotion reserved for a few fortunate individuals. It’s a way of life that is available to everyone, even those suffering from mental illness.

Dr. Juliane Zenn is highly trained and experienced in treating a wide range of psychiatric disorders. She can help you find the happiness you deserve and in doing so, free you from the obstacles limiting your full potential.

When working with patients in a consolidated treatment modality, where Dr. Juliane Zenn is the sole provider of the psychotherapy and medication, she will begin with an initial evaluation. After completing some self-assessment questionnaires (for mood, and eating patterns, if appropriate), she will thoroughly explore the nature of the patient’s present complaints, past psychiatric, medical, family and personal history and treatment goals at the end. Having performed a detailed history she will arrive at an accurate diagnosis and a customized treatment plan.

Eating Disorders (includes Anorexia, Bulimia)

Two of the most common eating disorders are anorexia and bulimia. These potentially life-threatening disorders often originate in the teenage or young adult years. They are much more likely to develop in females. The precise cause of eating disorders is unknown, but they have often been connected to issues of low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and even substance abuse.

Mood Disorders (includes Depression, Bipolar Disorder)

It is perfectly normal to feel unhappy, depressed or sad sometimes. However, when these feelings do not want to go away and last for long periods of time, you may be suffering from clinical depression or another mood disorder and should seek clinical help. Today there is no reason to have to suffer from the debilitating effects of depression. Bipolar is another mood disorder; it is generally characterized by moods of elevation and depression.
