Dr. Juliane Zenn is a Board certified adult and adolescent psychiatrist with more than 28 years experience in the treatment of eating disorders. She received her BA from the Johns Hopkins University and her MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she also completed her psychiatric internship and residency, serving as Chief Resident at the Bronx Psychiatric Center in her final year. Dr. Zenn completed an eating disorders fellowship at Fair Oaks Hospital in Summit, NJ, under the supervision of Dr. Jeffery Jonas, where she had the opportunity to reat adults and adolescents with anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder on both the inpatient and outpatient levels using a combination of individual, group and pharmacotherapy. During her fellowship, Dr. Zenn volunteered as a group leader for both sufferers and family members through the American Anorexia and Bulimia Association (AABA) at the Hackensack Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ. More recently, Dr. Zenn graduated from the William Alanson White Institute's Eating Disorders, Compulsions and Addictions Program.
Dr. Zenn currently maintains a private practice in New York City and Summit, NJ. Her approach to treatment is an integrative and eclectic one, combining individual psychotherapy (drawing from psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and interpersonal techniques) with medication management, and meal support therapy. Dr. Zenn believes strongly in a team approach to the diagnosis and treatment of the complex, biopsychosocial nature of eating disorders. Although comfortable taking on the role of consolidated caretaker, she frequently works in a multidisciplinary setting, collaborating with psychotherapists, nutritionists, physicians and yoga therapists.
Dr. Zenn is passionate about helping adults and adolescents in their recovery from eating disorders of all kinds, with a special interest in Binge Eating Disorder, Emotional and Compulsive Eating, and Orthorexia. In addition, she also treats the frequently co-occuring conditions of Mood Disorders (Depression, Bipolar Disorder), and Anxiety Disorders ( Generalized Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety, Obsessive Compuslive Disorder). She believes that recovery should be a collaborative effort, uniquely tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient. Most importantly, treatment must be based on trust, mutual respect, empathy, and compassion.
Dr. Zenn is a member of several professional organizations, International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP), the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA), and Binge Eating Disorder Association (BEDA).
In her leisure time, Dr. Zenn enjoys spending time with family and friends, attending classical music recitals, taking cooking classes, skiing and playing tennis.
